Airline Technical Services
Southwest Florida International Airport
Midfield Terminal Complex

AvAirPros was retained in June 1998 to assist the airlines serving the Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in evaluating proposed Midfield Terminal Program options for the Fort Myers airport. The current $386M program includes a new 28-gate midfield terminal, in-ground hydrant fueling, additional taxiways, airfield improvements, parking structure, rental car facilities, and new roadway system.

In its early role, AvAirPros provided technical and financial analysis support to the airlines in developing and evaluating various midfield concepts in an effort to simplify and reduce a program that had begun approaching a billion dollars. A new midfield concept was selected by the airlines and approved by Majority-In-Interest vote in August 1999. Also assisted the airlines in analyzing whether the airlines would be better off to maintain the current residual airline rate structure or changeover to a compensatory rate structure. The approved concept provides the Lee County Port Authority and the Airlines with a facility that meets current growth projections and provides flexibility at an airline-deemed reasonable cost.

AvAirPros continues to represent the airlines on technical issues related to airline programmatic requirements, terminal functionality, and airline systems such as specialty millwork, baggage handling systems, pre-conditioned air systems, ground power, and passenger loading bridges. In addition, AvAirPros provides concessions planning services to ensure that concessions are properly sized and located throughout the design process.

The program management team is required to submit formal design documents at appropriate stages for AvAirPros review. Those reviews are coordinated with the Airlines. These coordinated reviews on functional and technical issues result in improved communication with the Airlines on a program that might otherwise not receive sufficient attention due to RSW?s non-hub status.
